THE REASON TO CARE
Saint-Étienne: a european redemption
Saint-Étienne’s club museum commemorates the 1975–76 European campaign and the final in Glasgow. Your proposed finish line is a European Cup or Champions League trophy with a new generation.
Your opening moves
- Check the starting division and board expectations, then plan the route to the top flight if needed.
- Build a core of players who can stay with you for several seasons. Prioritise contracts and development pathways over constant turnover.
- Make home form a measurable part of the story: record your home points and European knockout results every season.
Give the save its own rules.
- Promote at least one academy player into the senior squad each season when viable.
- Do not replace more than half of your regular starting XI in a single summer.
- Keep a season-by-season record of your home performance.
A career worth following
- First phase: become a stable top-flight club.
- Next: qualify for Europe with a sustainable squad.
- Ultimate target: win the Champions League with an academy graduate starting the final.
The trap to avoid
Trying to compete on multiple fronts too early can expose a thin squad. Protect player development and rotation.
Check before you start
Confirm the club’s division, player availability, finances, competition rules, and database version. Keep an untouched opening save. If your database differs from the premise, adapt the challenge and record the change rather than quietly editing the game world.
