THE REASON TO CARE

River Plate: the monumental standard

River won the 2018 Copa Libertadores against Boca Juniors, a final documented in CONMEBOL’s annual report. That is the historical inspiration, not a template for your results. The new story is a generation that belongs to your save.

Your opening moves

  1. Choose a recognisable attacking identity and a pathway from the youth side to the senior team. Develop players for roles your first team actually uses.
  2. Keep a succession chart for the players overseas clubs are likely to want. Do not wait for a deadline-day sale to start scouting.
  3. Balance the Superclásico with the rest of the season: plan the squad for domestic consistency and continental knockout games.

Give the save its own rules.

  • Promote at least one academy player into the senior rotation each season when viable.
  • Keep a club-trained captain or vice-captain when a suitable player is available.
  • Stay until you win the Libertadores with a player you developed starting the final.

A career worth following

  1. First: turn an academy prospect into a trusted first-team player.
  2. Next: win the Libertadores and finish above Boca domestically.
  3. Long game: retain enough of the winning core to defend the continental title.

The trap to avoid

A development project can become a permanent replacement cycle. Decide which players you must keep long enough to win together.

Check before you start

Confirm the club’s division, player availability, finances, competition rules, and database version. Keep an untouched opening save. If your database differs from the premise, adapt the challenge and record the change rather than quietly editing the game world.
